He had been in ill health for two years. The deceased was born at Alexandria, Pa., January 6, 1833, and was consequently aged 66 years. His wife preceded him to the grave, May 29 of this year. Four children - William, Harry, Mrs. Jennie Howe, of Mahone, W.Va., and Clara, at home - survive him. Mr. Salyards was a quiet, industrious man, an old boatman of canal days, and a veteran of the civil war. He had been an employee of the Pennsylvania railroad company for more than thirty years. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock; interment in the Lutheran cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Tuesday, September 26, 1899, page 8
