Our Roaring Spring and Hollidaysburg correspondents give us the following particulars of the killing of James Sanford at McKee's station: On Thursday night while the local freight north was making up its train at McKee's station a man named James Sanford, an employe of the Hollidaysburg and Gap furnace, while walking on the track was struck by the cars and injured so much that he died in about an hour after the accident. Both legs were cut off and his collar bone and several ribs were broken. He was returning to the furnace from his boarding house, with a pair of boots in his hands, when the cars struck him. Dr. Roller, the company physician, was taken out on an engine, but he found the man's injuries such that his services were of no avail. Coroner Mitchell impaneled the following jury: Messrs. J. D. Wilkins, Joseph Gates, G. D. Porter, C. Hileman, Dr. D. J. Appelby and James McGinnis, who, after hearing the evidence, gave as their verdict that the deceased came to his death accidentally, and that no blame can be attached to the company or their employes. Mr. Sanford was a native of St. Mary's county, Maryland, where he resided until about four months ago. He was employed by Dr. Royer, at Rebecca furnace, until a short time since, and his intention was to return home shortly. He was a widower and about 33 years of age, and had no relatives in this State. His employers say he was a very worthy man, who during the short time he worked for them had gained the respect of his fellow workmen. His remains were interred in the Roaring Spring cemetery, Rev. J. A. J. Williams officiating.
