Died, on Thursday, the 21st inst., Mrs. Sarah Jane Satterfield, wife of Rev. William A. B. Satterfield, aged 60 years. She was born in Philadelphia, and at an early age her parents came to Newton Hamilton, Mifflin county, where, at about the age of 14 years, she was converted to God and joined the Presbyterian church, of which she continued a faithful and exemplary member until her death. At the age of 17 she married Lieutenant Charles Reem, who fell in the battle of Winchester, with Colonel Murray and Captain Gallagher. Her health had not been very good, but after her second marriage she seemed to improve in health until about five years ago, when she began to "Fade away to the land of the blest, Like the last lingering rays of even." He sufferings were exceedingly great but she bore them with a patience that was remarkable, and at length died as calmly as if going to sleep. She leaves a husband, three sons and two daughters to mourn their loss; but, they sorrow not as those without hope. Her children were all standing round her bed during her last hours - Mrs. Mary Maria, wife of W. H. Stephens, her eldest; William C. Reem, Mrs. Sarah Zequeelia Jane, wife of Samuel McMonigle, the eldest of her second marriage; Orville Y. I. Satterfield and Barron R. H. Satterfield. According to a request made some time ago, as her spirit was passing away, there was sung, "Why do we mourn departing friends, Or shake at death's alarms, etc." Found in the Presbyterian Hymnal, old edition, No. 779. Mrs. Thompson, Miss Hooper and Mrs. Bancroft were the three ladies who sang the hymn referred to above. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, March 28, 1889
