CALVIN GRANT SAUER (Special to the Tribune) ROARING SPRING, Nov. 10. - Calvin Grant Sauer, one of Pennsylvania's most successful business men, died at Atlantic City at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of heart trouble, following an attack of paralysis in October, 1920. Mr. Sauer was born in Bedford county August 31, 1869, and was a son of George and Maudilla [sic] Sauer (both deceased). A few years later he came with his parents to Roaring Spring, where he lived until 19 years of age; after that he was associated with the firm of Sauer Brothers, of Altoona, until he accepted the position of manager for the Williamsburg department store. In 1912 he established the United States Lock and Hardware factory at Columbia, Pa., which he successfully conducted until a stroke of paralysis compelled him to retire from active business. He spent the winter of 1920 in Atlantic City, and early in the spring of 1921 left with his wife for a tour of Europe and Palestine, returning to the United States June 3, 1922. Because of ill health his wife took him again to Atlantic City on October 19th, where three weeks later, he passed away. Mr. Sauer was a member of the Presbyterian church of Columbia, but was also interested in the Reformed church at Roaring Spring, his boyhood faith, which he never refused financial aid at any time. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania club, of New York city. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary A. Sauer, one sister, Mrs. John B. Miller, of Roaring Spring, and one brother, Norman F of Detroit, Mich. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Detrick, of the Reformed church, of Martinsburg, at the Miller residence on Main street, at 10 o'clock this morning. Interment will be made in a receiving vault in Altoona for the present.
