All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ GEORGE SCHANDELMEIER George Schandelmeier, 72, 929 First avenue, Altoona, veteran of more than 54 years of service for the Pennsylvania Railroad company in the Altoona works, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday in the Altoona hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday. He retired from the railroad company service as a safety inspector in the South Altoona foundry on May 1, 1954. Mr. Schandelmeier entered the service in May, 1901, as a messenger boy on the Altoona division, served his machinist apprenticeship in the Twelfth street shops and subsequently served at Juniata and South Altoona. He was born in Altoona May 18, 1883, a son of George and Ernestine Ramin Schandelmeier, and on Oct. 12, 1909, was united in marriage with Miss Sara Lucas of Tyrone. Mr. Schandelmeier was a lifelong resident of Altoona. He leaves his wife, three daughters and a son, Miss Lois and Wayne of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Jean Holt of Charleston, W.Va., and Mrs. Alice Hileman of Altoona, and give grandchildren. Mr. Schandelmeier was a member of the Second Presbyterian church and White Cross lodge, Knights of Pythias. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Books funeral home, Altoona, by the Rev. William Kitto. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today. Tyrone Daily Herald, January 12, 1956
