The sudden and unexpected death of this young man, who was loved and respected by all his neighbors, was a sad surprise to his friends. Only a few days ago he was strong and healthy, but contracted a cold while engaged in cutting ice which soon terminated in death. Altoona Tribune, February 21, 1889 NEWRY. On Tuesday last all that was mortal of Albert Schwertt was laid in the silent tomb in the Catholic cemetery at this place. The deceased was the won of Mr. Charles Schwertt, of Juniata township, and was born February 29, 1868, and was consequently nearly 21 years old. When the dread summons came, the suffering and pain which the young man endured without complaint showed to all those who surrounded his dying couch that he was ready to do his Master's bidding, and they have sufficient reason to believe that he is now reaping his reward in the "Sweet By and Bye." The deceased had a large concourse of friends, besides his father, mother, several sisters and two brothers who are left to mourn their loss. The young man had been an earnest member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, in this place, from infancy and never neglected his church duties. He was never known to give his parents, sisters or brothers and unkind word; hence, he was the idol of his sisters and brothers and the joy of his parents. Truly, it is hard to give up such an one, but as he cannot come to them they can go to him. The father and family of the deceased desire to extend their thanks to the neighbors for the kindness shown them during their trouble, and also to the church for the imposing services rendered at the funeral of the deceased. Altoona Tribune, February 28, 1889 Note: SHWARDT in the 1880 census.
