William Henry Schwartz, son of George W. and Susan Reed Schwartz, who died in the Altoona hospital on Saturday evening last, was born in Williamsburg this county, November 18, 1864, so that he had attained the age of 54 years and 2 months when he passed into the invisible world. He spent his boyhood in Williamsburg, and in due time was indentured to O. A. Traugh, of the Hollidaysburg Democratic Standard, in whose office he learned the art preservative of all arts. He did some work in the newspaper offices of this city but had been absent from this section for many years, having been employed in various parts of the union working at his trade or editing newspapers. The deceased was not only thoroughly well acquainted with the printing business, but was also a writer of much vigor and charm. For some time he published a small weekly in Croton, Ohio, edited jointly by himself and his wife, Mrs. Daisy Eddleblute Schwartz. His wife died in June, 1917, and some time later he went to Portland, Indiana, where he was employed on a newspaper. At the beginning of the winter of 1917-18 he was attacked by inflammatory rheumatism in its most violent form and when he rose from his bed, five months later, his heart was hopelessly diseased. He came east, worked awhile at the Williamsburg paper mill, his fingers having been so badly drawn and twisted by his disease that he found it difficult to follow his regular calling. Later he went to the national capital and was employed in a small office near Washington until he became too ill to work. He was admitted to the hospital at Alexandria, Va. There he was found by his brother, the editor of the Tribune, by whom he was brought to his home in this city on the last day of November, 1918. A week ago he was removed to the Altoona hospital, where he grew worse steadily until death came to his relief, at 7:10 Saturday evening. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Della Maughamer, of Hollidaysburg, who became the mother of his only son, Howard Wesley, now a resident of Pittsburg. Later on they were divorced. A few years ago he married Miss Daisy Eddleblute, a brilliant young newspaper woman of Ohio, who died in June, 1917. His parents died many years ago; one brother survives, Wesley H. Schwartz, editor of the Tribune. The funeral will take place from 835 Twentieth avenue, at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.
