Sell, Member of the Altoona School Board, Dies at Breezewood After Suffering Heart Attack. Stricken with a heart attack at a hunting camp south of Breezewood, in Fulton county, shortly after noon yesterday, Daniel M. Sell, aged 66, of 128 East Third avenue, prominent merchant and member of the Altoona school board, died soon afterwards. With several companions he left his home on Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock and went to the hunting camp, located between Breezewood and Hancock, Md. To all appearances he was in good health and the attack came upon him suddenly and he lived but a short time, expiring at 2.15 o'clock. The body was brought to his home last evening and arrangements made for the funeral, which will be held on Monday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Daniel Monroe Sell was born on Sept. 18, 1869, at Leamersville, a son of Rev. Brice and Elizabeth (Burns) Sell, both deceased. He grew up on the farm, attended the village school and in his young manhood embarked on his life career, that of merchandising. He was first employed in the McMaster store in Newry, then he came to Altoona and worked in the D.M. McFarlin store which he subsequently acquired and he was actively engaged in business for a period of thirty-five years, his store being located at Fourth avenue and Third street. He was also engaged in contracting and other business activities. Four years ago Mr. Sell was elected a member of the city school board for a four-year term. At the recent primary election he was renominated for the office on the Republican ticket and his name will thus appear on the official ballot at the election next Tuesday. He gave the city a conscientious service as a member of the board. A lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, he held his membership in the Twenty-eighth Street church. He took an active part in the various activities of the church. He was a member of the Providence society of the church, serving as its president for a period of twenty-five years and he was a deacon for about thirty years. Mr. Sell also served as a member of the National Council of Men's Work, a Church of the Brethren organization, and was president of the Middle Pennsylvania district branch of this body. An ardent church worker all his life, he took an active part in Sunday school work and he served as president of the Men's Bible class of the Twenty-eighth Street church school. Mr. Sell was married twice. In 1896 he married Nancy Alice Dilling of Clover Creek. After her death he was married on Sept. 19, 1906, to Susannah Dilling of Saxton. Five children were born to the first marriage, including the late Dr. Byron M. Sell, who died about one year ago under circumstances similar to the passing of the father. Dr. Sell suffered a heart attack while hunting, but he rallied and was brought home, dying shortly afterwards at Mercy hospital, of which institution he was a staff physician. The surviving children are as follows: Mrs. Lorna Geisinger of Altoona, Mrs. Agnes Miller of Leamersville, Mary A. Sell of Altoona, Mrs. Annetta Ross of Altoona, Mrs. Cordina Macready and Mrs. Kathryn S. Boland of Altoona and Mrs. Olive Underkloffler of White Plains, N.Y. He is also survived by one brother, Stephen H. Sell of this city, and two sisters, Mrs. Gloria Lovenia Powell, wife of Conrad Powell of this city, and Mrs. Arvilla Leonard of Freedom township. He was a nephew of Rev. James A. Sell of Hollidaysburg and his descendants include fifteen grandchildren. The funeral service on Monday afternoon will be held in the First Church of the Brethren. The officiating ministers will be Rev. Walter Scott Long, pastor of the First church, and Rev. Glenn Norris, pastor of the Twenty-eighty Street church. Interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.
