A well-known Middle division conductor, died of paralysis, about noon yesterday. He had not been feeling well since Sunday, but his condition was not considered serious until yesterday morning at 4 o'clock, when he received the stroke which caused his death. Mr. Sell was born at Pine Grove Mills, Centre county, and was about 53 years of age. For thirty years he had been a resident of Altoona, being first employed in the company planing mill. He did not remain there long, but resigned and entered the employ of the company as a brakeman, then served as a flagman, and finally was promoted to the position of freight conductor, a position which he held for over twenty-eight years. He enjoyed the confidence of his employers, and was esteemed by his fellow workmen, as well as by all who knew him. Mr. Sell was twice married. His second wife was Mrs. Milton U. Palm, whom he married in Harrisburg eleven years ago on January 31 last, and who survives him. So do these step-children: Mrs. G. W. Fowler, Byron G. and C. Blaine Palm, of the city. One sister, Mrs. Martha Seibert, lives in Omaha, Neb., and his step-mother, Mrs. Sarah E. Sell, resides in East Berlin, Adams county. Deceased was a member of the Fourth Lutheran church, of the Order of Railroad Conductors, the Pennsylvania Railroad Relief, Winnebago tribe No. 35, Improved Order of Red Men, and of Mystic castle No. 27, Knights of the Mystic Chain. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, services being held at the house. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Friday, September 8, 1899, page 8
