A brief message from Hollidaysburg announces the sudden death last evening of David Sellers, an old and well known citizen of that town from a stroke of paralysis. Several months ago he had a stroke which confined him to his room for some time, but from which he had apparently recovered. We are not informed as to his age or other facts of his life, which our Hollidaysburg correspondent will furnish Monday morning. We can only say now that he was for many years a citizen of Hollidaysburg, known and liked by everybody, that he was a soldier in the union army and a member of Colonel William G. Murray post, Grand Army of the Republic, and a man for whom this writer for the last fifteen years cherished a particular regard. His wife and children will have the sympathy of the community in their affliction. He is survived by a number of brothers and sisters, among them Mr. George Sellers, of Hollidaysburg, and Mrs. Sue Proctor, of this city. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, April 4, 1891 HOLLIDAYSBURG HAPPENINGS. We again chronicle the news of a sudden death, in the person of Mr. David Sellers, brief mention of which was made in Saturday's TRIBUNE. During the past few months Mr. Sellers suffered three strokes of paralysis, and the last one, occurring at his home on Juniata street, near Hickory street, at 8 o'clock on Friday evening, caused his death. The deceased was born on March 24, 1832, at Middletown, in Dauphin county. He came here in 1835 and remained a citizen of our community up until the day of his death. In early life he learned the trade of a blacksmith, but of late years, owing to bodily infirmities and a weakness of his eyesight, he has led a retired life. He served his country well as a private in company G, One Hundred and Ninety-second regiment. On June 16, 1857, he was married to Miss Rebecca Martin, a daughter of John R. Martin, who, with the following children, Miss Mary B., John G., William J. and A. McClellan Sellers, all of this place, survives him. He was also a brother of Hiram Sellers, of Cumberland, Md., Mrs. Sue Proctor, of Altoona, Mr. George Sellers and Mrs. Margaret McCloskey, both of this place. He was a member of Colonel William G. Murray post No. 39 Grand Army of the Republic, and also a past grand in Hollidaysburg lodge No. 119 Independent Order of Odd Fellows. In his domestic relations, he was an affectionate husband and indulgent father, and he was genial, companionable and unassumed [sic] in his intercourse with the world. For many years he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. The funeral services were performed by Rev. W. W. Dunmire, assisted by Rev. Dr. D. H. Barron, at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal church. The remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery, and the impressive ritualistic services of the Grand Army and Odd Fellows were held at the grave, in the presence of a large concourse of people.
