Shaffer, aged 47 years, died at the Roaring Spring hospital on Thursday evening at 7.30 of pneumonia following influenza. He was ill a week and at the same time all other members of the family were down with the disease. Shaffer was removed to the hospital a few hours before his death in a dangerous condition. He was born at East Sharpsburg and was twice married. He was a son of Jacob and Christian Shaffer, deceased. He first married Mrs. Martha Wilt, and a son was born to the union. A few years later Mrs. Shaffer and the boy, Harry, passed away. Mr. Shaffer some years ago married Mrs. Mary Hammond and they have resided in Roaring Spring, he being employed in the paper mill and in contract work. He is survived by his widow and five small children, as follows: Ruth, Dorothy, Paul, Harriet and Harold Matthew, all at home. Also surviving are the following step-children: Mrs. Mildred Burk, Laura and John Hammond, of Youngstown, O.; Viola and Velta Hammond, at home.
