Deceased retired at 9 o'clock last evening, apparently in good health, and two hours later was taken sick, dying at the time stated. Dr. H. C. McCarthy was hastily summoned, but when he arrived at the house he pronounced life extinct, assigning heart disease as the cause of death. Deceased was born in Germany sixty-five years ago. He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married several years ago. He was a veteran of the late war and a member of Post 62, G.A.R. In the absence of Coroner Foust from the city, Alderman Stephens was called on to hold an inquest, but on hearing the facts in the case decided that one was not necessary. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon and the services will be in charge of Post 62, G.A.R. Interment in Fairview cemetery. Altoona Mirror, June 5, 1896
