Main St., Bellwood, died unexpectedly at his home at 12:15 a.m. today. He was born in Antis Twp. Feb. 17,1893, a son of Abram and Susan (Nearhoof) Shaffer, and married Goldie Roles. Surviving are his wife, four children, John Jr. of Martinsburg, James of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Susan Smith of Bellwood and Mrs. Jean Ball of Buffalo, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, three brothers and one sister, Edgar of Kansas City, Mo., Albert of Tyrone, Clarence and Mrs. Eva Brophy of Bellwood. A veteran of Army service in World War I, he was a member of the World War I Veterans and the 40 and 8 in Altoona. Mr. Shaffer retired on disability in 1945 as a welder for the Pennsylvania Railroad after 33 years of service. Friends will be received at the Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, after 2 p.m. tomorrow.
