MRS. MARY SHAFFER

Widow of Dr. Orr H. Shaffer, chief of staff of the Altoona hospital 
until his retirement in 1918, died at her home in Sellersville, Bucks 
county, Saturday evening.  She was born Aug. 23, 1871, at Lemont, the 
daughter of John I. and Elizabeth (Boal) Thompson.  Her husband died in 
1926.  Mrs. Shaffer, prior to her marriage, also practiced medicine and 
served as the pathologist at the Altoona hospital.  While residents of 
Altoona Dr. and Mrs. Shaffer made their home at 1118 Twelfth avenue.  A 
son, Dr. John Shaffer, died while serving with the armed forces in 
World war II.  She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louis H. Crossman, 
of Oaks, Pa., and one grandson, Peter Shaffer, at home.
