Mrs. Eliza J. Shannon, wife of Robert Shannon, died at 1:45 Wednesday May 19, 
of a complication of diseases at her home, two miles South of East Freedom, 
after a year’s illness.  She was born February 22, 1842, her maiden name being 
Eliza McCauley.  She was married twice and five children were born to her first 
union, three of whom are living, Grant and Mers. Rebecca Shaw, of McKee, and 
Mrs. Annie Helsel, of Roaring Spring.  Her second husband, Mr. Shannon, and two 
children, Harry R., at home and Robert, Jr., of Tyrone, also survive.  She was 
a member of Grace Reformed church at Claysburg.  The funeral was held at the 
church services conducted by the pastor, Rev. Calvin Skyles.  Interment was 
made in the Lutheran cemetery at Claysburg.
