Shaw, 88, formerly of Newry, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Presbyterian Home of Hollidaysburg. He was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Newry, son of the late Charles A. and F. Alta (Holland) Shaw. He married Ruth Shaw Nov. 28, 1935, in Newry. Mr. Shaw was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Claysburg. He retired as a partner from Shaw Brothers Inc., Newry. Mr. Shaw was a tech 5th grade in the U.S. Army in WWII with the 97th Quartermaster Company, serving in Japan. He was a member of Portage Lodge 220 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Valley of Altoona, Jaffa Shrine and the Motor Corps, all of which he had been a member for more than 50 years. Surviving are his wife of 69 years; three sons: Richard and wife, Claudia, and Kenneth, all of Newry, and Donald of Martinsburg; a daughter, Janice Blakeley of Altoona; four grandchildren: Greg, Lorie, Travis and Troy; two great-grandchildren: Taylor and Branden; two sisters: Olive Delozier of Newry and Mildred Helsel of Blue Knob; and a brother, Boyd of Newry. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Melvin in 1994 and Marion F. in 1996. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church, Claysburg, by Pastor Christopher S. Culuris. Interment at Newry Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the 32nd Degree Learning Center for Dyslexic Children, Altoona, c/o Sorge Funeral Home, 422 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
