All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ JAMES ALEXANDER SHAW James Alexander Shaw, one of the well known and highly respected colored residents of the city and Lakemont Terrace, died at his home at North Glenside at 6 o'clock last Thursday morning. He was aged 77 years and was a resident of the city for some twenty-three years. He was one-time steward of the Juniata club and later conducted a restaurant on Twelfth avenue. He retired twelve years ago and removed to Lakemont Terrace. He was a consistent Christian gentleman and a veteran of the Civil war and a prisoner in Libby prison. He moved to North Glenside about a year ago on account of the health of his wife, who preceded him to the grave on February 12. He leaves an adopted daughter, Miss Laura Hawkswith, a teacher in the Washington, D.C. schools and one sister, Mrs. Annie Macey, of Atlantic City, besides several nephews and nieces.
