He was born June 21, 1884, at Hollidaysburg, a son of William and Emma (Buck) Shinafelt. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elsie (Knepp) Shinafelt; the following children: Mrs. Clair Beatty of Altoona; Mrs. Glenn Mattern of Canoe Creek; Miss Lucille, at home; Charles and Merrill of Altoona, Alvin H., of Canoe Creek; Chester of Sharon, and Edgar of Plattsburg, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Harry Blake of Hollidaysburg; one brother, William H., Erie. He attended the Methodist church and a charter member of Concordia society. He retired in 1940 as a Middle division engineer.
