It is with deep regret that we note the death and burial of Mr. Henry Shingler, of Martinsburg, formerly of this place. He moved to the above place about two years ago, where he engaged in farming for Mr. S. T. Knox, of Altoona. Mr. Shingler was well known throughout this community, as he had lived here for many years. As a man he was quiet and gentle in manners, always honest, industrious and a Christian gentleman. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this place for many years, always at the front in the promotion of God's kingdom and cause here on earth, and looked forward to a bright and happy home in the other world. The funeral cortege arrived in this place about 11 o'clock and proceeded to the church where the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. J. B. Brenaman, of Martinsburg, assisted by Rev. Frank Leidy, of Williamsburg. The sermon was an able one and contained many words of comfort for the bereaved family and relatives. After this an opportunity was given to those who wished to take a last look at their friend. They then proceeded to the grave where interment was made in the Mountain cemetery. The friends have the sympathy of the entire community. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, March 7, 1895, page 3
