James Shirley died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Robert Malone, 2108 Seventh avenue, yesterday morning at 10.20 o'clock, death being caused by pneumonia, superinduced by an attack of influenza. He was born in Lilly, Cambria county, on Oct. 3, 1839, and at the time of his death was in his 70th year. He spent forty years of his life in California where he staked a gold mine claim and returned to Pennsylvania two years ago, making his home with his niece. He is the last member of his family and is survived only by several nieces and nephews. The body will be taken to Newry where a funeral mass will be said Sunday, followed by interment in the Newry cemetery. Altoona Times, Saturday Morning, October 12, 1918
