Shirley, of 2214 Beale alley, died at his home at 11:45 Tuesday evening of cerebral hemorrhages. He had been ill fourteen years, following an accident in which he fell from a scaffold while working for contractors in charge of the construction work at the South Altoona shops. He was born in Newry, January 28, 1841, the son of James and Mary Shirley, deceased. He served in the Pennsylvania cavalry, Company G, Eleventh regiment, during the Civil war. After the war he returned to this city, where he was married to Miss Sebina Hoover, September 10, 1865. She survives with the following children: Mrs. Mary Gochenour, of Johnstown; Mrs. Jennie Miller, of Claysburg; Mrs. Cora Kuhn, Mrs. Lillie Doorman, William E. and Harry A., all of this city. The funeral will be held with requiem mass at Sacred Heart church at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning, followed by burial in Calvary cemetery.
