Roaring Spring, Jan. 22 - Mrs. Leah Kauffman Shoemaker, wife of Benjamin Shoemaker, of Ore Hill, died at her home there Tuesday, following a short illness due to complication of diseases. Mrs. Shoemaker was born in Woodbury, in 1854, and was the daughter of Michael and Leah Kauffman, deceased. About forty years ago she was married to Benjamin Shoemaker, a farmer of Woodbury township. She was a life-long member of the Church of God. The deceased is survived by her husband, one son, Jesse, of Baker's Summit; one step-daughter, Miss Sadie at home and two brothers, David B. Kauffman of Poplar street, Roaring Spring; Peter Kauffman, of California. One son Warren, died on influenza at his home in Altoona, two months ago. Funeral services will be held at her late home near Ore Hill at 2 o'clock Thursday; interment in Holsinger cemetery, above Baker's Summit. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, January 23, 1919, page 10
