SHOENFELT [photo] Lengthy Illness Proves Fatal to J. W. Shoenfelt James W. Shoenfelt, 93, of 2726 Broad Ave., a heating contractor in the city for more than 50 years, died at 7.45 p.m. Saturday in the Altoona Hospital where he had been a patient since Oct. 5. Mr. Shoenfelt was born near Martinsburg Feb. 11, 1865, a son of John and Marie (Whittaker) Shoenfelt. His wife, the former Alice Morrow, died Sept. 26, 1955. Mr. Shoenfelt came to Altoona as a young man and was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a patternmaker and draftsman prior to going into business for himself in about 1906. In the early days he combined tinning with his furnace business. In more recent years a son, Dysart M., had been associated with him in business. Mr. Shoenfelt was a charter member of the Broad Avenue Presbyterian Church. Surviving are three children, Mrs. Elizabeth Ebert of Gladwyne, Dr. James W. Jr. of West Leesport and Dysart M. of Hollidaysburg; four grandchildren and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Sarah Brumbaugh of Martinsburg, Miss Margaret and Irvin of Fredericksburg, Mrs. Sue Ludgate of Scranton and Charles of Philadelphia.
