Shoenfelt and one of Duncansville's oldest and best known residents, died Saturday night at 10 o'clock at her home at 1322 Fourth avenue, that borough. Death was attributed to virus pneumonia and resulted after an illness of six weeks. She was a resident of Duncansville for more than 60 years and one of the town's best known and most respected citizens. She was a daughter of John and Nancy Hicks and was born at Williamsburg, Blair county, Aug. 9, 1854, lacking at her death a little less than three months of attaining her 90th birthday. She was married at Williamsburg on March 14, 1881 to John K. Shoenfelt, who preceded her in death on March 13, 1933, two years following their golden wedding anniversary. Shortly after her marriage to Mr. Shoenfelt they moved to Duncansville, where he engaged in several business enterprises and later served as one of the town's justices of the peace for many terms. Mrs. Shoenfelt centered her interest in her home and at no time took active part in community activities. She was a member of the Duncansville Presbyterian church. Surviving her are these children: Carrie Shoenfelt of Youngstown, O., Mrs. Joseph B. Kyle of Gary, Inc., Mrs. Winfield Webb and Mrs. Robert Hughes, both of Harrisburg, Charles E. Shoenfelt of Duncansville and Ray A. Shoenfelt at home, also one sister and two brothers, Mrs. E.W. Wertz and Calvin Hicks of Williamsburg and Attorney William L. Hicks of Tyrone, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends are being received at the home. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Monday, May 15, 1944 SHOENFELT - Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Shoenfelt of 1322 Fourth avenue, Duncansville, will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home in charge of Rev. Julian Park of the Duncansville Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. *. B. Harman. Interment in Carson Valley cemetery. Friends are being received at the home.
