Phain Shollenberger, one of our town's oldest and best known citizens, passed peacefully out of life, at his home on Wayne street, Saturday evening at 7:40 o'clock. On January 23, 1911, he was stricken with paralysis, his entire left side being affected, but recovered sufficiently to be about the house, but for the last two years and eight months he was confined to his bed. Mr. Shollenberger was born March 27, 1841, near Reading, Pa., and came to Hollidaysburg in the spring of 1876, when he opened up a shoe shop and was considered one of the best shoemakers in the county, continuing in that business until he was stricken. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran church and for many years one of its officers; also a member of Lodge No. 119, I.O.O.F., Encampment No. 69, and Artisans Order Mutual Protection. On August 18, 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ellen Straesser, of Martinsburg. He is survived by his wife and four children as follows: Margaret, at home; Charles of Ridgway; John and Frank, of Hollidaysburg; also by one sister, Mrs. Robert Stewart, of Tyrone, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at his late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock; interment at Fairview cemetery, Martinsburg. Altoona Tribune, Monday morning, February 17, 1919
