SHOWALTER Of 5745 Rhode Island avenue, Eldorado, died at his home Saturday evening at 6.30 o'clock after an extended illness. He was born Oct. 6, 1857, at Hagerstown, Md., a son of John and Elizabeth (Searfoss) Showalter. His first wife was Mrs. Lillian M. (Van Dreau) Showalter who died Dec. 9, 1927. Nine children were born, three of whom survive. Surviving are his second wife, Mrs. Minnie (Lawhead) Showalter; three children, D. Charles Showalter, Mrs. Jennie Holderman and Mrs. Eva Moffitt; one step-son, Julian B. Lawhead; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Petri of Hagerstown, Md., a brother, Samuel S., of Hutchison, Kans.; 11 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Showalter retired as a car repairman in the Altoona car shop in 1936. He was a charter member of the Fourth Street Church of God. Friends are being received at the Axe funeral home. SHOWALTER - Funeral services for Daniel Webster Showalter of 5745 Rhode Island avenue, Eldorado, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Fourth Street Church of God in charge of Rev. C. A. Byler. Friends are being received at the Axe funeral home until 11 o'clock Tuesday morning and then at the church until time of service. Altoona Mirror, July 14, 1947
