SHOWALTER Of East Freedom RD, died unexpectedly at 10:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 1978, in Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Mrs. Showalter was a sewing machine operator at Martinsburg Shoe Co. and retired in 1965 from Altoona Shoe Co. She was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Roaring Spring RD, a daughter of Joseph R. and Hannah V. (Helsel) Dodson, and married Clarence H. Showalter on May 1, 1935, at East Freedom RD. Surviving are her husband, seven children, Mrs. June Oakes of Roaring Spring, William and Mrs. Shirley Mentzer of Hollidaysburg RD 1, Mrs. Audrey Pepple and Mrs. Linda Hollinger of Roaring Spring RD 1, Mrs. Freda Feathers of Olathe, Kan., and Melvin of Woodbury RD 1; 19 grandchildren, a great- grandson and five brothers and sisters, Levi of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Charles of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Beatrice Smith of East Freedom and Mrs. Bernadine Jones and Harry of Altoona. Three sisters, Mrs. Alberta Bowers, Mrs. Pearl Grimm and Mrs. Lydia Miller died in 1977. Mrs. Showalter was a member of the Leamersville Church of the Brethren, where she was a deaconess, and Adult Sunday School Class and Ladies Aid Society. Friends will be received in the J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and in the Leamersville Church of the Brethren from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
