SKIPPER Oct. 12, 1928 - Oct. 21, 2006 Joan M. Skipper, 78, Greenwood, died of cancer Saturday. She was born in Altoona, daughter of Bernard and Violet (Orr) Trostle. She married Wilmer (Skip) Skipper June 2, 1947, at Greenwood United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and member of Greenwood United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling, scratch-off lotto tickets and her best friend, Shadow. She is survived by two daughters: Debbie Himes of Altoona and Carol Phelan of Altoona; son, Jaime and wife, Renee Skipper, of Hollidaysburg; two granddaughters: Carrie Rowles and Heather Barr; five grandsons: Allen Phelan Jr., Ryan Phelan, Brandon and wife, Sarah Phelan, Justin Skipper and Tyler Skipper; five great- grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Cassarly and Betty Frederick; lots of nieces and nephews; and four friends: Bill McKendree, Kerm Alwine, Twila Harding and Beth Swander. She was preceded in death by her husband April 10, 1995; son, Billy; and four brothers: Bill, Bud, Jack and Bob. Services are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., 719 N. Fourth Ave., Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Hospice or American Cancer Society.
