MRS. ELMEDA J. SMAWLEY.

  Mrs. Elmeda J. Smawley, widow of Lewis Smawley, and a former resident 
of this city, died at 8 o'clock Thursday evening of paralysis, at the 
G.A.R. ladies' home, Hawkins, Pa.  She was born in Lewistown, February 
3, 1843, and was the daughter of James and Margaret Benner, deceased.  
Four sons and two daughters survive, as follows: William R., of 
Braddock; George R., of Mt. Union; Charles E., of Pittsburg, and James 
D. of this city; Mrs. Maud Herman, of Llyswen, and Mrs. Nellie Miller, 
of Battleboro, Vt.  The remains were brought to the city yesterday 
afternoon and taken to the home of Mrs. Herman, where funeral services 
will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, followed by burial in Oak 
Ridge cemetery.
