Smelser. Charles Clinton, 18 months-old son of Harry A. and Margaret G. Smelser, died last evening at 6:10 o'clock, after eating poison. Yesterday morning at 10 o'clock the child went to the kitchen cupboard, where a dish containing Easter egg dye was setting. The child swallowed a mouthful of dye and then went into the sitting room, where on the table lay several morphine pellets, which had been prescribed for the mother. The boy carelessly ate several of them. His mother, who saw him close the box, took him to the office of Dr. Isenberg, next door. He soon became unconscious and though Drs. Blose and Oburn were also summoned, he never regained consciousness. The physicians stated that two of the pellets were sufficient to cause death, and it is probable that the child ate more than that number. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, from the residence of the child's grandfather, Mr. A. W. Keith, in the East End, services to be conducted by Rev. S. S. Hough. Interment in Greenwood cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, April 6, 1901
