Dr. Ella G. Smiley, the well known chiropodist, who had been located in Altoona 
for several years, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Alfretta Goss, at Pine 
Grove Mills, Centre county, Tuesday morning at 2 o’clock, following a week’s 
illness of pneumonia.
Two weeks ago Dr. Smiley left Altoona to nurse her mother, who was ill and 
remained at the bedside of her parent until she was stricken also.  Dr. Smiley 
was born in Pine Grove Mills and resided there until eight years ago, when she 
came to Altoona and opened an office in the Central Trust building.  She was 
untied in marriage twelve years prior to coming here to Warren Smiley now 
deceased.  She is survived by her mother, one sister and seven brothers as 
follows:  Mrs. William Kepler, of Pine Grove Mills, Clarence Goss of Houtzdale; 
George of Pine Grove Mills; Joseph, Frederick and Herbert, all of Pittsburgh; 
Roy, of Pine Grove Mills and Charles, of Harrisburg.
