Smith, one of the oldest residents of Claysburg, died on Sunday afternoon after an illness of two weeks of paralysis. Mr. Smith was born near Fishertown, Bedford county, February 1, 1837, and at the time of his death was aged 70 years, 3 months and 1 day. He servd our country during the dark days of the rebelion and belonged to post No. 82 Grand Army of the Republic of Roaring Spring. He was twice married. By his first wife, one son, John of McKee survives. On April 26, 1864, he married Miss Julia Snowberger, who survives as do also the following children: Montgomery of East Freedom, George of Altoona; Mrs. Harry Dively, of Claysburg and Mrs. Cora Dibert at home. The following brothers and sisters survive: George, Mrs. Waite and Mrs. Calsdwell of Frankstown; Mrs. John Ling and Mrs. Bowser of South Altoona; Mrs. Weisel and Mrs. Miller of Fishertown. Mr. Smith was for many years a member of the Lutheran church and by his death the people of the village have been deprived of a good citizen his children of a kind father and his wife of an affectionate husband. Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church this morning conducted by his pastor, Rev. C.F. Gephart and interment made in the Lutheran Cemetery.
