SMITH Catherine B. Smith, widow of Frank Smith, died at her home in Fredericksburg Wednesday evening of last week, from cancer of the stomach. Deceased was a daughter of David and Nancy Burket and was born near Curryville, on the Ira Grubb farm, about 77 years ago. About 44 years ago she was united in marriage with Frank Smith. Death claimed Mr. Smith a number of years ago while a resident of our town. No children were born to this union. However, Ed. Burket, residing on the Grafius farm south of town, grew to manhood in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Smith is survived by five brothers and three sisters: John Burket, of Fredericksburg; Samuel, of Huntingdon county; David, of Indiana; George, of Decatur, Ohio, and Adam, of Valley Falls, Kansas. Levi and Henry are deceased. Mrs. Barbara Smouse, of Altoona; Mrs. Nancy Daugherty, of Roaring Spring, and Mrs. Susan Conrod, of Fallen Timbers, Cambria county. Prior to their residence here, Mr. and Mrs. Smith lived on Piney Creek for many years. The subject of this sketch was well and favorably known to many of the older residents of the community, by whom she was held in high esteem. Funeral services were held in the Church of the Brethren at Fredericksburg, Friday afternoon last, conducted by Rev. M. R. Brumbaugh and Elder A. B. Burget. Interment in the Rhodes cemetery at Smithfield. Martinsburg Herald, September 21, 1917
