Smith died on Wednesday afternoon at the West Penn hospital, Pittsburgh, following an illness from a complication of diseases that extended over a period of two years. The remains were brought to this city yesterday morning. He was born Oct. 8, 1861, in Duncansville, and previous to his illness was employed as a coal miner. His wife died twenty-five years ago. Surviving are the following children: Samuel E. Smith of 1906 Fifth avenue, Jacob of 1602 Fourth avenue, John in the west and Mrs. Laura McCartney of Twin Rocks and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Miller and Mrs. Clara Hunter, both of Hollidaysburg.
