IDA PATTON SMITH CALLED TO HER REWARD Funeral Services Tuesday Evening at Presbyterian Chapel During the silent watches of the night, Mrs. Ida (Patton) Smith passed from the sleep of time to the sleep eternal on Sunday morning at 2 o'clock at her late home, 322 West Fifteenth Street. Thus has passed a wonderfully active little woman, who until she fell sick, Friday, April 27, was busy doing good. Mrs. Smith's last public appearance in Tyrone was on Thursday evening, April 26, when she attended the Community service at the new Presbyterian Church. At that time, she was as well as usual and up until that time, had attended all the dedicatory services beginning the Sunday before. Pneumonia developed and caused her demise. Mrs. Ida Josephine (Patton) Smith was a daughter of the late Gustin S. and Amanda (Davis) Patton. She was born in Perry County, October 12, 1851, and at the age of five years, moved with her parents into Juniata County. A home of culture and piety nurtured and developed those traits of interest and sincerity, zeal and purity which characterized her life. Mrs. Smith received her early education in the public schools of Juniata County. After her graduation, she attended the Bloomsburg State Normal and took courses at the Chicago, Illinois and the Columbia, New York Universities, where at the higher institutions, she specialized in English, became most proficient in her endeavors which fitted her for her profession and work in life. She taught school in Juniata County, Hazelton, Pa., the state of Minnesota, coming to Tyrone in 1895, where she taught English in the Tyrone High School for 20 years, after which she was principal of the Greenwood school; where she taught for several years. In 1920, Mrs. Smith was elected a member of the Board of Education of the Tyrone Borough, serving in that capacity four years. On July 3, 1880, at Pekin, Illinois, Miss Ida Josephine Patton became the bride of Dr. Alexander Smith, a notable surgeon, who passed to his reward in 1912. Surviving Mrs. Smith's death are these sisters and brother: Mrs. Ada C. Weierick, Harrisburg; Mrs. Mellie C. Purdy, Youngstown, Ohio; Robert C.
