Irvin W. Smith

  Long engaged in  banking and financial activities in the city, Irvin 
W. Smith, aged 71, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Altoona hospital 
after a brief illness.   
  A resident of Altoona since 1901, Mr. Smith was affiliated with 
building and loan associations in various capacities.  He served as 
cashier of the Union bank for 26 years.  At the time of his death, he 
was office manager for the trustees of the building and loan 
associations. 
  During his career, Mr. Smith came in daily contact with many 
Altoonans, enjoying fine friendships.  His early life was spent in the 
teaching profession and he served as an assistant principal in the 
Fairview school.  
  He leaves to mourn him his wife, three sons and a daughter, eight 
grandchildren and five brothers, the sympathies of the community being 
extended to the family.
