He was born near Point, this county, June 18, 1859, the son of Alex C. and Mary Hoover Smith, both deceased. He was united in marriage with Julia E. Ellis of New Paris, June 21, 1881. To this union were born nine children, five of whom preceded him to the grave. Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons and one daughter. Ira E. of Juniata; Rev. George E., pastor of First United Brethren church, McKeesport; E. Ressler of Hiram, Ohio; and Stella, wife of Charles Imler of Roaring Spring; also the following half- brothers and sisters: Mont H. of East Freedom, George H. of Altoona, and Mrs. Harry Dively and Mrs. Harry Dibert, both of Claysburg, and eleven grandchildren. He was a member of the United Brethren church of East Freedom and his pastor Rev H.B.Seese, officiated at the funeral services which were held at his late home at 2:30 Monday afternoon.
