Smith Sr., 60, of Sinking Valley, RD 1 Tyrone, died Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 1:50 p.m. at the Altoona Hospital Center for Nursing Care. He was born December 22, 1942 in Bellwood, a son of the late Casper J. and Gertrude "Mae" (Himes) Smith. He was previously married, first to the former Darlene Chambers who survives in Sidman, and then to Alice L. Stoltz, who preceded him in death. Then on July 27, 1992 in Winchester, Va., he married Ana Carrera who survives in Sinking Valley. Surviving are four sons: Joseph L. Jr., and wife Becky of Johnstown; Raymond J. and wife Sandra of Hope Mills, N.C.; Kevin D, and wife Carrie of Easley, S.C., Michael P. of Tyrone and two daughters: Marie B. and Evie K. both at home. He is also survived by thee granddaughters, Carrie, Ashley and Kaysie Smith, a step-grandson Corry, two step-granddaughters Tiffany and Brittany and a sister Evie Hinderliter and husband Harry of Sinking Valley. He was preceded in death by a son Casper J. and a sister Anna Duncan. Mr. Smith retired in September 1998 from the Small Tube Company, Duncansville as a general helper following 30 years of service. He previously was employed at Price's Poultry as manager for several years. He also worked his entire life on the family farm in Sinking Valley. He was a member of the St. Matthew Catholic Church, Sinking Valley Grange and the Future Farmers of America. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 6, 2003 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Church with Father Joseph T. Orr Celebrant. Interment will follow at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Friends will be received today from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at the Feller Memorial Home where wake services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the St. Matthew Elementary School, 406 W. 11th Street, Tyrone, Pa., 16686.
