Mrs. Mary Smith, wife of Frank Smith, of 922 First avenue, died suddenly at her home at 9.10 o'clock Wednesday night. Mrs. Smith was in her usual good health the day and evening and visited a neighbor. On returning home she engaged herself in preparations to bake bread. While opening the cupboard door, she suddenly threw up her hands and fell backward. Her eldest daughter ran to her side and tried to raise her up, but she died in a few minutes without uttering a word. Her husband, who was in bed, was aroused and at once summoned Dr. C. F. McBurney. He pronounced death due to apoplexy. The deceased was born in Bedford county about thirty-four years ago. She was married to Mr. Smith in this city sixteen years ago, and had resided here ever since. Besides her husband she is survived by three children: Gertrude, aged 15, Mary F., aged 14, and Joseph Leo, aged 12 years. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, February 16, 1899
