Smith died at Vail station, near Tyrone, of paralysis. He was aged 52 years 11 months and 14 days. He was the son of David C. and Catharine Smith and was born at Vail, where all his life was spent. In the civil war he served 100 days in a Pennsylvania regiment and on the 28th of September, 1864, he entered Company F, of the Nineteenth Pennsylvania cavalry, serving until the close of the war. Deceased was a member of the First United Brethren church, Tyrone, the local lodge of Knights of Pythias and the Pennsylvania railroad relief. He had been an employe of the railroad company on the Tyrone division, for about thirty years. Besides his wife these children survive: Mrs. William Rodgers, Tyrone; Mrs. D. H. Kennedy, Jersey Shore; Charles E. Smith, Altoona, and William D. and John B. Smith, at home. His mother, Mrs. Catharine Smith, also survives, with two brothers, W. B---. Smith, of Tyrone, and A. L. Smith, of Altoona. The funeral will be held Friday. Services at the Bald Eagle Methodist church, conducted by the deceased's pastor, Rev. J. E. B. (?) Rice, at 10 in the morning.
