William James Smith died at his home on Locust street at 5:45 Sunday evening after a six months' illness, due to heart disease. He was a son of James and Hetty Smith and was born in Newry, July 4, 1882, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage with Miss Etta Marsden, June 4, 1908, to which union one son was born. Mr. and Mrs. Smith established their new home in Roaring Spring, where they have always resided. Mr. Smith had been a victim of poor health for many years and life was almost a burden to him, but through it all he was cheerful and hopeful that he would soon enjoy the greatest blessing given human beings - good health. He was a member of the Mennonite church, always doing his duty for the cause of right. He leaves many loving friends and neighbors to mourn his death. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife and son Russel; his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. James Smith, of Newry. Three sisters and two brothers also survive - Mrs. Minnie Showalter, of East Sharpsburg; Mrs. Hilda Heuston, of Rodman; Mrs. Pearl Shaw, of Newry; Harvey, of Newry, and George, of Freedom township. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Herman Snyder in the Mennonite church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. Interment in Greenlawn cemetery.
