OBITUARY. - Died, in Altoona, on Tuesday, 11th inst., of scarlet
fever, WILLIE JOSEPH TUIGG SMITH, eldest child of Wm. R. and Annie
Smith, aged 2 years, 1 month and 12 days.

To the bereaved parents, and especially to our esteemed friend, the
disconsolate mother, we tender our earnest sympathies.  The loss of a
dear child is always a trying affliction, but to the young mother who
revels in the smiles and prattlings of her first born, such a
bereavement is almost unbearable.  In this instance death has claimed
one of the brightest and most promising of earth's children, but the
bereaved parents will, we trust, find ample consolation in knowing
that their darling has joined the myriad hosts of pure spirits which
surround the throne of God.
