Smouse, son of Jerome and Emma Smouse, of 818 East street, East End, died at Camp Gordon, Ga., on Friday morning from the effects of an attack of pneumonia which followed an attack of influenza. His parents had been notified of his illness and were with him at the time of death. He was a veteran in the service at Camp Gordon, being one of the selected men to entrain for Camp Lee, from the East Side board in September, 1917. He received his preliminary training at Camp Lee and was later sent to Camp Gordon. At Camp Gordon he was a member of Company B, 319th machine gun battalion. Several months ago he was transferred to the military police and was given duty at the station at Camp Gordon. He was taken ill about ten days ago and his condition grew to be so alarming that his parents were notified. They arrived at the camp a day before his death. Earl R. Smouse was born at Cook's Mills, Huntingdon county, 27 years ago and had been a resident of this city for thirteen years, during which time he was employed in the freight station of the Pennsy. He is survived by his parents and three brothers, one of whom, Charles, is on the U.S.S. Wyoming. The other two brothers, Harry and Albert are at home. The remains were brought to this city and the interment will be made in Rose Hill cemetery this afternoon. FUNERAL NOTICES The remains of Earl R. Smouse arrived in the city last Saturday evening from Camp Gordon, Ga., where he died on Friday morning of pneumonia, and were taken in charge by Funeral Director Otto G. Gilden. Private funeral services will be conducted at the home at 818 East street, East End, at 3 o'clock this afternoon, followed by private interment in Rose Hill cemetery.
