An Altoona Brakeman Killed at Pack Saddle - Others Injured. A rear-end collision in which six men were injured, one of them fatally, occurred on a sharp curve near Pack Saddle yesterday morning about 2:40 o'clock. The injured were Brakeman Samuel A. Snowdon, of this city, who died a few hours later; Conductor P. S. Williams, 413 Fifteenth street, this city, arm broken and badly cut about the head; Flagman G. W. Miller, jr., 1015 Eighteenth street, this city, hurt about the head; Conductor D. S. Ankney, Derry, arm broken and hurt about the head; Engineer Harry Brantlinger, of Derry, severe scalp wound and other cuts and bruises, and Fireman Mahan, of Derry, severely cut about the head and shoulders. Extra freight, No. 1614, in charge of Conductor David Ankney and Engineer Harry Brantlinger, of Derry, was running at a high rate of speed. An Altoona and Pittsburg crew were ahead. Engineer Brantlinger could see the Pittsburg crew but failed to see the Altoona crew until his engine crashed into extra No. 1302, in charge of Conductor P. S. Williams. Engine 1614 was smashed and eight cars demolished. Two flagmen were all that were left to pick up the injured. Brakeman Snowden was driven through the top of the cab, scalded with the escaping steam. The other two men were also forced out, but escaped death. By the crash the engineer, fireman and conductor of the Derry crew sustained the injures above mentioned. Conductor Williams and Flagman Nuller [Miller] were brought to their homes in this city yesterday afternoon. The body of the unfortunate brakeman came over on mail express last evening and was taken to his late boarding place, 2301 Thirteenth avenue, from which place the funeral will proceed to Newry tomorrow. Interment will be made in the Lutheran cemetery. The deceased was in his 19th year, having been born August 3, 1874. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Annie Mulhurn, who lives near Bennington, and one brother, William Snowden [sic], of this city. He was a member of the Pennsylvania railroad relief department.
