Snyder, son of Mr. Jacob Snyder, of this city, died at Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory, of pneumonia on the 23d inst. Mr. Snyder has been a resident of Cheyenne for the past twenty-one years. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday, March 25, 1891 THE LATE A. C. SNYDER. An Appropriate Tribute to His Memory by a Western Editor. The TRIBUNE recently made brief mention of the lamented death of A. C. Snyder, son of our townsman, Jacob Snyder, which occurred at his home in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on the 23d inst., after less than a week's illness. Mr. Snyder was born in Huntingdon, this state, and was aged 46 years and 5 months at the time of his death. He became a telegraph operator, but upon the breaking out of the war he joined the union army. When it was discovered that he was an operator he was transferred to that branch of the service and had many strange adventures and hair-breadth escapes. For two years after the close of the war he was a resident of New Orleans, afterwards coming north. Twenty-one years ago he went west and settled in Cheyenne, returning the following year to marry Miss McCrum, who returned with him to his western home. For fourteen years he was in the employ of the Western Union Telegraph company, for four years was postmaster of Cheyenne, and was engaged in the grocery business at the time of his death. He was deeply interested in the public schools, was a consistent member of the Congregational church and superintendent of the Sunday school. He is survived by his wife and six children - five boys and a girl. The Cheyenne Daily Leader, to which we are indebted for the above facts, pays the following tribute to his memory: "The death of A. C. Snyder is a distinct loss to this community. Identified with Cheyenne almost from its inception his figure has long been a familiar one to every resident. The example which he leaves behind him, both in his public and private record, is a precious heritage to his children and well worthy of general emulation. A man of strong religious character, he was never obtrusive in promulgating his beliefs or forcing his opinions on those who might differ from him. In all of his affairs, he was intensely practical. He had a cool, incisive way of getting at the core of any question under discussion and when his opinion was asked, as it often was, he expressed himself frankly without any circumlocution. He was essentially honest with himself and in all his relations. With cant or hypocrisy he had little patience. "In his manner he was undemonstrative, but beneath it there beat a warm heart that keenly sympathized with human suffering. His hand was ever ready to do a kind deed, and having done it, he speedily forgot it. Few men in the community were more universally esteemed. Strongly pronounced in his political convictions, he yet enjoyed the respect and confidence of those most ardently opposed to his party. They could all appreciate the transparent honesty and integrity of his character and the high motives which actuated him. "The profoundest sympathy of this community goes out to Mrs. Snyder in her affliction. She has nobly labored side by side with her husband for the past score of years and to her unceasing and loving labor can be attributed some of his success and the most of the happiness he experienced during years when physical suffering was frequently his lot."
