A peculiarly sad accident occurred yesterday afternoon which resulted in the drowning of Christie Snyder, who runs on the mountain division. The little fellow left his home on Seventh avenue and Twenty-first street, and with some companions went to the creek which runs through the commons west of the city, near the toll gate, on the Hollidaysburg road. While playing near the stream it is supposed that he slipped down the bank into the water. His companions were powerless to aid him, the water being deep at that point, and immediately ran and informed the boy's mother, who was grief stricken at the terrible announcement. However, she ran as soon as possible to the scene of the sad occurrence, where, the alarm having been given in the meantime, a large crowd was collected, and the lifeless body of the drowned boy recovered by Mr. Bennet after having been in the water about twenty-five minutes. Every exertion was made to restore life, but to no purpose, and the child so lately in the midst of childish glee and happiness was carried to his home a corpse. The grief of the mother was most heart-rending and painful to witness. His father is a well known and highly respected engineer of the company, and in their sudden affliction the stricken parents have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
