The Life of Another Old Citizen of this Community Ended. At the home of his daughter, Mrs. George W. Jones, at Northwood, Fulbert Snyder died at 3.20 Saturday morning, after an illness of about two weeks, though he had been in failing health the past year. Though his ills were attributable to extreme age the immediate cause of death was pneumonia. He was rational to the last, and quietly slept away. Filbert [sic] Snyder was born in County Gemuender, Bavaria, Germany, on the 27th of August, 1811, and at death had almost reached the advanced age of 85 years. In 1834 he entered the German army, continuing in the military service until April 9, 1840, when he received his discharge. On June 15, 1840, he sailed for America to make his future home, and August 27 following he arrived at Baltimore. Remaining in that city only a short time he came in October, 1840, to Williamsburg, Blair county, where he worked at his trade as carpet weaver. He afterwards resided two years at Yellow Springs whence he removed to Grazierville. From the latter place he came to Tyrone in the spring of 1863, taking up his residence at the old well known Snyder homestead just outside the borough limits, where he lived for thirty-three years, raised a large family, and saw this town grow from a sparse settlement to a flourishing borough. The past three months he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. George W. Jones, at Northwood. On March 26, 1844, he was united in marriage to Miss Susana Hull, at Williamsburg, by Rev. Michael Eister. Mrs. Snyder died March 19, 1883, aged 55 years. They were the parents of fifteen children, four of whom have passed away. Those surviving are George W., Mrs. E. H. Levy, Mrs. Matilda Kemberline, Samuel, Mrs. Samuel Dunlap, William E., Emory E., David W., Mrs. George W. Jones, Ida Bertha, and Jessie Keturah, all of Tyrone and vicinity. The deceased was admitted into membership in the Lutheran church on Easter Sunday, 1826, by Rev. Mr. Kistler, and thus from his boyhood has led a consistent Christian life. He was charter member of Tyrone lodge No. 152 I.O.O.F., and never flagged in his interest to the order and his lodge. In his younger days Mr. Snyder was an active citizen of this community, always reliable and enjoying the confidence of his neighbors. He took a lively interest in the affairs of Snyder township, serving as tax collector, supervisor, school director and in other places of trust and importance among his fellow citizens. In politics he was a life-long Republican, always taking a lively interest in the affairs of the party. The funeral occurred on Monday in the afternoon. Services were conducted the First Lutheran church by Rev. F. L. Bergstresser at 2.30 o'clock, after which interment was made at Tyrone cemetery.
