Richard Duane Southwell Sr., 69, of 614 N. 3rd Street Bellwood, died at 7:21 a.m. Sunday, September 21, 2003 at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born June 13, 1934 at Mill Creek, Huntingdon County, the son of Charles Arthur and Beatrice A. (Corbin) Southwell. He was raised by his step-father Harry W. Walker, all deceased. He was married November 29, 1958 in Altoona to Beverly Ada Woodring who survives. He is also survived by four children, Richard D. Southwell Jr., and his wife Ramona of Altoona, Susan Southwell of Shippensburg, Mark A. Southwell and wife Penny of Huntingdon and Jeffrey Hoffman of Mount Union. Also, a mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William G. Reed of Tyrone; a brother-in-law, Jesse and Maxine Woodring of Sunbury; and a sister-in-law, Judy and Richard Brown of Alexandria. Mr. Southwell is also survived by 13 grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and six sisters: Vicky W. Smeal; Melissa W. Anders; Elizabeth S. Malloy; Diana S. Boylan; Cheryl S. Febbi and Doretta S. Piersall. He was preceded in death by two children, Linda B. Keller and Jon R. Southwell and a brother Terry S. Walker. He was a member and elder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Altoona. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the V.F.W. in Huntingdon. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service and was a records specialist for 18 years at the Huntingdon State Correctional Institution. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mill Creek with Bishop Kevin Galbraith officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Mill Creek. Friends will be received at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mill Creek one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Meals on Wheels in Huntingdon or to a charity of choice. Arrangements are by the Derman Funeral Home, Tyrone. Tyrone Daily Herald, September 22, 2003
