Spencer received a message Friday announcing the death of his brother, James M. Spencer, a former well known resident of this place, at his home, 742 south Fifty-seventh street, Philadelphia, at 2:40 Friday a.m. The deceased was born at Royer, Pa., April 24, 1849, being in the 68th year of his age at the time of his death. He was the eldest son of the late William J. and Margaretta McNamara Spencer. He received his education through the medium of the Williamsburg public schools, Williamsburg academy and Williamsport Dickinson academy and Williamsport Dickinson seminary. By vocation he was a commercial salesman, following the profession practically his entire life until within a few months of his passing, when his health, which had been failing in recent years, unfitted him for traveling. During his career he served a number of prominent mercantile firms and was well known throughout Pennsylvania and eastern states as an alert and efficient salesman. He was an affable Christian gentleman, a radical Prohibitionist and combined business pursuits and religion to a marked degree. He is survived by his wife and eight children and one brother as stated above. The funeral will occur Monday. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday Morning, January 13, 1917
