SPIDLE [photo] Brief Illness Is Fatal to Aged Resident James M. Spidle, 84, of 511 Fairview avenue died at 6 o'clock this morning in the Altoona hospital where he had been a patient since June 23. Mr. and Mrs. Spidle resided with a daughter, Mrs. Raymond R. Long. He was born April 16, 1869, at Woodbury, a son of Milton and Jemima Spidle, serving as a school teacher for several years, then in the employ of the Altoona & Logan Valley Electric Railway company in Altoona. Later he engaged in farming for 30 years at Newry, retiring some years ago. On Dec. 20, 1891, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna M. Beegle in the Newry Lutheran parsonage by Rev. A. K. Felton. They resided first in Hollidaysburg and later in Frugality, Altoona and Newry. Surviving are his wife, eight children, Harry of Tiffin, O., George of San Francisco, Calif., Preston of Johnstown, Nelson of Cumberlend, Mr., John. [sic] Mrs. Pearl G. Long and Mrs. Goldie Tiley, all of Altoona, and Mrs. Lena Shaw of Leamersville; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. A son, Charles, died Dec. 16, 1946. Mr. Spidle was a member of the Newry Lutheran church. Friends will be received at the Laughlin funeral home after 7 o'clock tomorrow evening. Altoona Mirror, July 8, 1953
